News from the clubs
Cuneo, Italy, October 6, 2011. Italy’s Bre Banca Lannutti CUNEO, winner of last year’s national cup and Supercup, discussed with the media its upcoming adventure in the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League that will start in about two weeks with an away game against Germany’s Generali UNTERHACHING. The Italians – who are joining Europe’s most elitist competition for the second consecutive year – will play their first home match next October 26 by hosting the Czechs of Jihostroj CESKE BUDEJOVICE.
After a break due to the FIVB World Cup in Japan and the Olympic pre-qualifiers, the League Round will re-start next December 13 with CUNEO playing its third opponent in Pool D, Stade Poitevin POITIERS of France.
“This competition is always very dear and important to me and I can’t deny it is one of our primary goals this season” said the President of the club, Valter Lannutti. “We will give our best to honor this great competition especially as we have the right credentials to do well”.
“We will have a long season with many matches, only few days to train and rest, but we have a very good and balanced roster accompanied by first-class technical staff” added head coach Flavio Gulinelli. “I am sure that we can get many good results this year. The CEV Volleyball Champions League is one of the most fascinating competitions out there and this is an additional incentive to perform well”.
“It is a great pleasure for me to present our adventure in the CEV Volleyball Champions League” concluded General Manager Marco Pistolesi. “This is one of the most prestigious competitions worldwide, a race where you won’t find any weak teams along your way. With our participation we can also show and confirm the real competitiveness of our national league”.
