Kindl/Seiser prevail in Austrian country quota to start Baden Open on a high note
2020 World Tour 1-Star - Baden Open

Baden, Austria, August 19, 2020. The 2020 edition of the FIVB World Tour BADEN OPEN presented by SPORT.LAND.NÖ started on Wednesday afternoon with an exciting country quota featuring a number of Austrian teams battling for the last place available in tomorrow’s qualification round.

Moritz Kindl/Mathias Seiser (pictured), who were the eventual winners of the day, will join their compatriots Tobias Winter and Julian Hörl in the qualification starting on Thursday at 9 am. Reigning Baden champions Clemens Doppler/Alexander Horst, Robin Seidl/Philipp Waller, as well as Alexander Huber/Christoph Dressler and Moritz Pristauz/Laurenz Leitner have all secured their participation in the Main Draw that will get underway on Friday.

In the first match contested on Wednesday, Lorenz Petutschnig and Florian Schnetzer needed two sets only (21-18, 21-15) to edge Felix Friedl and Maximilian Trummer. However, in the all-important playoff, Kindl and Seiser beat Petutschnig and Schnetzer 21-17, 21-18 to claim the much coveted spot in the qualification round.

“We are happy that we finally broke the losing streak against these two and we are obviously delighted at the opportunity to play tomorrow’s qualification,” Kindl said.

UPDATE Since two of the teams due to play in the qualification round did eventually not travel to Baden, Schnetzer/Petutschnig and Trummer/Friedl will continue their journey in the competition as well – as ‘lucky losers’.
