#EuroVolleyU19W pool stage draw
CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship 2020

Luxembourg, July 23, 2020. The Drawing of Lots for the Final Round of this year’s #EuroVolleyU19W took place earlier this afternoon at the home of European Volleyball in Luxembourg, thus setting the tone for the much-awaited competition due to run from August 22 to 30 in Zenica (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Osijek (Croatia). Upon completion of the pool phase, the top two teams from each group will contest the semis and medal matches in Zenica, while those finishing their pool matches in third and fourth place will play the classification games for places 5 to 8 in Osijek.

The composition of the two preliminary pools reads as follows:

Pool I: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Serbia, Slovakia, Belarus, Poland
Pool II: Croatia, Russia, Turkey, Germany, Bulgaria, France

As they are playing host to the continental event, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia head their respective pools, with the remaining 10 participating teams drawn after they were previously placed in five cups as per their position in the latest European Ranking in this age-group.

National Federations and CEV officials, including CEV President Aleksandar Boričić, followed the DOL via the Zoom video platform

The eventual gold and silver medal winners of this competition will secure their participation in the 2021 edition of the FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship (whose dates and venue are TBD).

Italy are the defending champions, after they beat Russia 3-2 in the gold medal match of the 2018 edition hosted by the Albanian Volleyball Federation in the cities of Tirana and Durrës. Poland claimed bronze two years ago after recording a tie-break victory over Turkey.

The CEV and the organisers will implement the strictest measures and follow all recommendations issued by the relevant national and international health authorities to make sure that the event takes place in a safe environment for players, officials and everyone involved, as Volleyball activities resume following the long break imposed by the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
