Russia and Poland to fight for ticket to #EuroVolleyU17W
News from the Zonal Associations
Tbilisi, Georgia, November 27, 2019. The group stage ended on Wednesday at the EEVZA qualifier for next year’s U17 Women European Championship in Tbilisi. Russia and Poland topped the charts in their respective pools and as a result, on Thursday they will battle for the gold medal as well as for a coveted spot in the Final Round of #EuroVolleyU17W due to take place in the summer of 2020 in Podgorica, Montenegro.
Russia took maximum 12 points from their four matches and they did not drop a single set to secure first place in Pool A. Ukraine finished second after storming to a 3-0 victory over hosts Georgia (25-12, 25-7, 25-13). Latvia and Georgia complete the standing in third and fourth place, respectively, meaning Georgia will be playing the bottom-ranked team of Pool B, Lithuania, for seventh place in the final standing.
The final is a repeat of last year’s gold medal match in Olecko where Russia beat Poland 3-0. Russia may go for back-to-back titles, while Poland hope to emulate their compatriots who claimed top honours at the men’s event held last week in Daugavpils, Latvia.
