Russia, Georgia, Poland and Belarus victorious at #EuroVolleyU17W qualifier
News from the Zonal Associations

Tbilisi, Georgia, November 25, 2019. The EEVZA qualifier for the 2020 edition of the U17 Women’s European Championship continued on Monday in Tbilisi at the Volleyball Hall named after 1964 Olympic champion Vazha Kacharava.

The hosts from Georgia (pictured) could eventually celebrate their first victory in the competition, despite losing the opening set of their matchup with neighbours Azerbaijan (27-29, 25-14, 25-20, 25-15). Georgia had previously lost in straight sets to tournament favourites Russia as well as to Latvia. Nino Mzhavia scored as many as 24 points for the home side as Georgia’s middle blockers Zina Kajaia and Nicole Zakharova recorded a tally of six blocks apiece along the way. Last year’s EEVZA U16 champions Russia look unstoppable and they easily routed Latvia in three sets (25-14, 25-12, 25-10) after achieving the same result in their previous matches with Georgia and Ukraine.

The competition started on Monday in Pool B as well. Last year’s EEVZA silver medal winners Poland dropped one set before edging Estonia 3-1 (25-10, 22-25, 25-20, 25-19). Karolina Staniszewska was the best player of the match scoring 19 points for Poland. To complete a very hectic day in Tbilisi, Belarus recorded a 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-21, 25-12) over Lithuania.
