240,000 attend history-making EuroVolley Women
CEV EuroVolley 2019 Women

Luxembourg, September 10, 2019. Only two days ago, Serbia claimed the continental crown from the truly history-making CEV EuroVolley 2019 Women held across four countries for the first time in history. The event has accounted for the spreading of a real Volleyball mania across the whole of Europe, with as many as 240,000 fans attending the matches of the continental showpiece event played in Ankara, Lodz, Budapest and Bratislava.

This is a truly mind-blowing figure, especially if looking back at the numbers registered in 2017 in Azerbaijan and Georgia (69,625) and in 2015, when the Netherlands and Belgium co-hosted a highly successful championship that attracted more than 100,000 fans.

The gold medal match between Serbia and Ankara set the ultimate record of attendance, with 13,040 fans at Ankara Sports Hall witnessing the climax of the tournament as well as a spine-tingling closing ceremony, featuring light shows and video mapping.

The 240,000 spectators confirm the huge success of a championship that featured for the very first time as many as 24 teams – and that delivered not only exciting matches, but also a ‘total event experience’ that fans will never forget!

You can be sure that the Volleyball mania continues later this week when the men’s tournament gets underway in France, Slovenia, Belgium and the Netherlands!
