All set in Croatia for the start of #EuroVolleyU16W
2019 CEV U16 Volleyball European Championship - Women

Zagreb, Croatia, July 12, 2019. Zagreb and Croatia are ready to host, along with Trieste in Italy, the 2019 edition of the U16 Women’s European Championship from July 13 to 21, 2019. One day before the first matches at SŠD Trnsko, Zagreb, everything is set for the second edition of this competition. Back in 2017, Croatia did not manage to qualify for the first ever #EuroVolleyU16W and they will be hoping to use the home-court advantage to achieve a good result in the competition.

“The members of the CEV Jury are pleased with the organisation and work done by the Croatian Volleyball Federation and we are looking forward to an exciting competition here in Zagreb,” said Helgi Thorsteinsson, CEV BoA and Jury member. “We are sure that Europe’s best players in the U16 age group will put on a great show here, as you can feel the excitement among all the teams and officials waiting for the start of the tournament tomorrow.”

“It is my greatest honour and pleasure to welcome all teams participating in the 2019 edition of Women’s EuroVolley U16, on behalf of the entire Croatian Volleyball family,” stated the President of the Croatian Volleyball Federation, Ante Baković. “Croatia has applied to host this tournament with greatest pleasure, as this is in line with our wish to developing Volleyball even further, and giving our contribution to the rise of the next Volleyball stars,” Mr Baković added.

“It is a privilege for our Federation and the city of Zagreb to host such an important event alongside our colleagues from Italy,” the Secretary General of the Croatian Volleyball Federation, Mrs Valentina Bifflin, stated. “This competition is a chance for young players to compete at the highest level against the other rising stars of Volleyball, preparing them for the next challenges at the senior level. I would also like to thank all of those working hard on organising this event, the city of Zagreb, our sponsors and CEV for all of their support and help,” Bifflin added.

Zagreb is hosting the matches of Pool I where hosts Croatia face Finland, France, Germany, Russia and Slovenia. The top two teams from Pool I will progress to the semi-final and final matches against the first and second placed teams from Pool II in Trieste, featuring titleholders and co-hosts Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Romania, Serbia and Turkey.
