Giant challenge for SSC Palmberg SCHWERIN in CEV Cup semi-finals
2018 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women

Schwerin, Germany, March 12, 2018. For the fourth time, SSC Palmberg SCHWERIN have reached the semi-finals of a European Cups competition. With the team from Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL, the German fans are expecting a very special highlight on Tuesday night. For head coach Felix Koslowski, Eczacibasi are currently the best club team in the world and setter Denise Hanke states, “It will be an extraordinary challenge to face Eczacibasi and the entire team is looking forward to this event.”

Denise Hanke has her very own experience with the Turkish team and knows them very well, as she played for Eczacibasi in the 2013-2014 season. “Even though we are only playing the role of the underdogs, it is great to play such a top-team as the one from Istanbul. We need to play aggressively and take risks in order to have any chance at all to destabilize their game,” says Hanke about the chances for the Germans.

Her head coach underlines the strength of the team from Istanbul, who have won every title at stake in international women’s Volleyball. “We are facing the number one team from the Turkish league with more than one extraordinary player. Opposite Tijana Boskovic will be difficult to control, but Rachael Adams, Jordan Larson and their setter Maja Ognjenovic are international top stars too. However, we showed in the quarterfinals many of our own strengths and qualities which we should not disregard,” says Felix Koslowski.

Marco Aurelio Motta, head coach of Eczacibasi, states that the German outside hitters as well as the harmony amongst the players of SCHWERIN have impressed him the most. “The team made it to the semi-finals, so obviously they are in good shape,” underlines the coach of the Turkish team from Istanbul.

The fact that receiving a top team such as Eczacibasi is an outstanding event was reflected quickly in ticket sale numbers on Schwerin’s side. Andreas Burkard, CEO of SSC Sportmarketing GmbH, mentioned that 1,400 seating places were sold one week after tickets went on sale. “We are expecting a sold-out arena and a great atmosphere,” Burkard claims.
