Austrian Beach Volleyball stars to face top international opposition at Baden Masters
2017 CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship - Baden Masters

Baden, Austria, May 24, 2017. The organisers of the annual Beach Volleyball tournament in Baden celebrate this year the thirteenth anniversary of their event. The CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship – Baden Masters presented by SPORT.LAND.NÖ returns again to the Strandbad where competition will take place from June 21 to 25. Many top international players are set to compete in the outskirts of Vienna only a few days after Baden plays host to this year’s CEV U22 Beach Volleyball European Championship. Approximately 20,000 fans are set to witness the tournament as the organisers have finalised plans for the construction of an imposing centre court.

International as well as all Austrian top athletes are ready to compete in Baden. The “cream of the crop” of international men’s Beach Volleyball features former European champions and winners of the 2009 Baden Masters, Adrian Gavira and Pablo Herrera from Spain. 2015 FIVB World Championship silver medallist Christiaan Varenhorst of the Netherlands is also due to compete in Baden – as well as London 2012 Olympic bronze medal winner Martins Plavins of Latvia, plus top teams from Poland and the Czech Republic.

Russia’s Beach Volleyball star Evgenia Ukolova headlines the women’s entries together with Germany’s top team Chantal Laboureur/Julia Sude. Spain’s Liliana Fernandez Steiner/Elsa Baquerizo, two-time European medallists, as well as top teams from Switzerland will take it to the Austrian sand as well, including the winners of the tournament held in Baden in 2016, Nina Betschart and Tanja Hüberli.

Other former winners of the event set to come back to Baden are Poland’s Mariusz Prudel (gold medallist in 2014), Jan Dumek of the Czech Republic (2010) and Swiss Beach Volleyball beauty Anouk Vergé-Dépré (2012).

As a result, Austria’s top teams will have a tough task to cope with when playing before the home fans. Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst, the Austrian top men’s team, as well as Thomas Kunert/Christoph Dressler, Florian Schnetzer/Peter Eglseer, Robin Seidl/Tobias Winter and Martin Ermacora/Moritz Pristauz-Telsnigg will carry the hopes of home success. Stefanie Schwaiger and Katharina Schützenhöfer, as well as Cornelia Rimser/Lena Plesiutschnig are the top women’s teams from the host country, who will be vying for the medals in Baden.
