Romanian Tigresses set sights on European crown after dominant home win
2016 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Women

Bucharest, Romania, March 30, 2016. Romania’s C.S.M. BUCURESTI are only two sets away from making history for their country’s Volleyball family following their fairly commanding 3-1 win in the first round of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women finals contested on Wednesday. The ‘Tigresses’ coached by Italian-born Francois Salvagni edged Turkey’s TRABZON Idman Ocagi in four sets (20-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-15) to set their sights on the trophy that will be at stake this coming Sunday when the return match will be played on the shores of the Black Sea.

The first set was a close race up to 20-all and at this stage Turkish coach Gökhan Coksen decided to replace one of his players with Ceren Cinar joining the actions. While she was standing behind the service line, the visitors from Turkey scored four straight points and eventually closed the opening set 25-20 in their favour.

However, the second and the third sets went in a completely different way with the home ‘Tigresses’ displaying a superb performance and their outstanding spiker Roxana Bacsis hammering the ball down from every possible position to sweep set 2 and 3 by the same score (25-16).

The fourth set was even more one-sided as C.S.M. BUCURESTI exploited to the full the many mistakes made by TRABZON, with the Turks evidently struggling with their defence play. The ‘Tigresses’, on the other hand, played with impressive consistency and intensity and eventually finished it all off at 25-15 to seal their 3-1 home win and set their sights on what would be Romania’s first European Cup title in history.
