Benfica’s Eagles determined to vie for Portugal’s second European trophy in history
2015 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Men

Lisbon, Portugal, April 10, 2015. Portugal’s Benfica LISBOA will be trying to write a piece of history for Portugal’s Volleyball family on Sunday as they play the re-match of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Men final with Serbia’s Vojvodina NS Seme NOVI SAD. After the young guys from Novi Sad recorded a 3:1 home victory on Wednesday, the players of the glorious club from Portugal’s capital are determined to seize the day and go for the golden set in an effort to become the country’s second team to lift a European trophy after SC ESPINHO won the Top Teams Cup back in 2001.

“There is always a little anxiety before playing a final but I am confident that the motivation and the support of our fans will make us overcome it and turn it into a positive drive,” says Benfica’s mentor José Jardim.

Even though they lost on Wednesday in Serbia, the ‘Eagles’ want to emulate what SC ESPINHO did 14 years ago when they lifted the only European trophy for Portugal to date. “I can assure that my players will be doing everything they can to give the fans something to cheer about,” Jardim continues. “However, we know that on the other side of the net there will be a team sharing our same goal.”

The tickets for the ‘big finale’ are sold-out and the organisers expect 1,700 people in attendance for the match taking place at the Benfica stadium. The match will start at 6pm CET and will be streamed live and for free on LAOLA1.tv
