Relying on support of local crowd DRESDNER SC vies for spot in CEV Cup final
2014 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women

Dresden, Germany, February 27, 2014. Making the semis of the CEV Volleyball Cup after edging past Khimik YUZHNY at the golden set was already a tremendous success for DRESDNER SC. Now Germany’s vice champions are only one step away from making the final act of the competition after beating Uralochka-NTMK EKATERINBURG at the tie-break in the first leg of the semis held on Tuesday in Russia. However, the re-match with one of the most decorated teams of all times won’t be easy at all.
“To beat twice a Russian team and to accomplish this feat within only four days is not an easy task” acknowledges DRESDNER SC mentor Alexander Waibl. “Every single set we win will be fine with us.” Though DRESDNER SC is in a good position to make the final, a possible comeback by Uralochka shall not be ruled out.

On Tuesday the Russian side lost their first home game in this year’s CEV Volleyball Cup but the players around former Olympic champion Yumilka Ruiz will be trying to avenge that defeat in Dresden. The local heroines rely on the support of their fans to write a piece of history. That was already the case a couple of weeks ago as DRESDNER SC edged past Khimik at the golden set. DRESDNER SC showed there the team can come back strong and is always ready to fight until the end.

MDR, the regional TV station, will be showing the match on their homepage. The live streaming will be moderated by former weightlifting star – and Olympic medallist – Marc Huster who has been providing live commentary also for the home matches played this year by DRESDNER SC in the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. His co-commentator will be middle-blocker Corina Ssuschke-Voigt, who was transferred to Dresden after starting the current season with France’s RC CANNES.
