Hungary still believe in their chances of progressing to #EuroLeagueM Finals
2017 CEV Volleyball European League - Men

Nyíregyháza, Hungary, June 14, 2017. After losing two of the three matches they contested last week in Ivano-Frankivsk, the men’s national team of Hungary are still hoping to progress to the Final Four of the 2017 CEV Volleyball European League – Men and will be trying to achieve this feat when playing their second round robin tournament in Pool B in front of a raucous home crowd in Nyíregyháza. Hungary will first play Denmark on Friday before taking on Israel and Ukraine on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Dr Ferenc Kovács, the President of the Hungarian Volleyball Association, addressed the media a few days before the home tournament stressing that the goal they have set is for the men’s national team to repeat the success story of Hungary’s women who have been truly on the rise over the last couple of years. “One of our main goals is to qualify to the Final Round of the 2019 European Championship and in order to achieve this objective, we have to work hard on building our team. The European League provides us with a great opportunity to do so,” he said.

Hungary head coach Juan Manuel Barrial added: “The evolution of the team is absolutely positive and the conditions are there for the achievement of great results. We really want to please our home fans with the matches we will contest this coming weekend.”

Cameron Illés Keen, the setter of the Hungarian national team, said: “I think we still stand a chance of progressing to the Final Four which will be taking place in Denmark in early July. Even though we only won one match out of three last week in Ukraine, I am confident that we can change this for the better when playing on home soil.”

Szabolcs Nemeth will not be able to play in Nyíregyháza since he is still recovering from a finger fracture.
