Galatasaray take last spot in CEV Cup semis
2017 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Lodz, Poland, March 16, 2017. Galatasaray ISTANBUL secured on Thursday their spot in the semis of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women after rallying to a compelling 3-0 victory (25-23, 25-18, 25-17) in their second matchup with Poland’s Budowlani LODZ.
Throughout the first set of the match, Budowlani LODZ set the tempo of the game as they put a lot of pressure on their opponents from Turkey. However, the team from the Bosporus did not give in, and slowly but surely found their way into the game. At the end, Galatasaray managed to secure their promotion to the next phase of the competition where they will be playing Russia’s standout team Dinamo KAZAN.
Although Budowlani LODZ were not successful in their quest for a spot in the semis, the fans stand united in the opinion that the team can walk proudly with their heads held up high. After edging Luka BAR and RC CANNES in the previous rounds of the competition, the players of Budowlani LODZ have come a long way in the CEV Cup, never losing their fighting spirit even when Galatasaray had already secured their ticket to the semis after taking the second set.
Having scored 15 points in the match, home star Kaja Grobelna congratulated the team of Galatasaray. “I congratulate Galatasaray on their win and wish the team and particularly my Belgian friend Charlotte Leys all the best for the next round. We may have lost, but I am very proud of my team and our fans. It was a great adventure for us all to have made it this far in a European competition.”
The team of Budowlani LODZ is certainly one to look out for on the European stage over the next years.
