Galatasaray claim first round of CEV Cup quarterfinal fixture with Budowlani LODZ
2017 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women

Istanbul, Turkey, March 8, 2017. Galatasaray ISTANBUL made a first step forward in their quest for a spot in the semi-finals of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women after rallying to a 3-1 victory (25-15, 25-27, 25-14, 25-17) over Poland’s Budowlani LODZ at Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall. The re-match will be taking place next week at the iconic Atlas Arena in Lodz.

Galatasaray were able to put a lot of pressure on their opponents with a very solid performance from the service line and their setter Gamze Alikaya did an excellent job orchestrating the home side’s offensive game and masterfully distributing among the team’s spikers. Though Budowlani LODZ put up a fight and did so especially in the second set, Galatasaray controlled the match almost from start to end with their opposite hitter Nadia Centoni scoring 19 times – five less than Budowlani’s star player Kaja Grobelna.

After the match, Galatasaray head coach Ataman Güneyligil said: “I am happy with the result, but not with our performance, especially with the moments where we lost control over the game. If we make the same mistakes next week, it will be a lot more difficult for us to make up for them. We all know that many people in Poland follow Volleyball and that the fans can make the difference there. That is for sure.”
