UYBA rally to away victory in Hungary to set sights on CEV Cup semis
2017 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women

Békéscsaba, Hungary, March 7, 2017. After 21 years a Hungarian women’s team has made it to the quarterfinals of a European Cup competition but on Tuesday Linamar – BÉKÉSCSABAI RSE ended up losing their home match with Italy’s Unet Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO (1-3; 23-25, 28-26, 14-25, 19-25). As a result, the Italians made a first step forward in their attempt to progress to the semis of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women.

As many as 1,800 fans were in attendance and contributed to a great atmosphere as the home side lost the first set by two points only. The Italians set the tempo of the game also in the early stages of the second set but the home stars responded swiftly and eventually came out on top at 28-26 after both teams had previously failed to capitalise on a number of set balls. Unet Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO resumed their triumphal march in the following sets, thus securing a 3-1 win, which bodes well for the return match they will be playing on home soil.

Sasa Nedeljkovic, head coach of Linamar - BÉKÉSCSABAI RSE: “In the first set I could see that we had prepared very well for this game as our opponent did not surprise us. Unfortunately, we lost a close first set and winning the second set took too much energy from us. We lost power and our Italian opponents were able to use this to their advantage. I hope we can play more matches like this one in the future because this is a good advertisement for Volleyball in Hungary.”
