Unet Yamamay through to CEV Cup quarterfinals despite tiebreak loss in Minsk
2017 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women

Minsk, Belarus, February 22, 2017. The journey of Minchanka MINSK in the 2017 edition of the European Cups ended on Wednesday night when the national champions of Belarus won 3-2 the re-match with Unet Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO on schedule for the 8th Finals of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women. This result was indeed not enough to make up for the away loss they had suffered in Italy two weeks ago.

Unet Yamamay had won the first matchup in Italy and caught a promising start on Wednesday night as well – but Minchanka eventually won the first set 25-22. Minchanka trailed 20-22 but four consecutive mistakes made by the Italians and one ace from the home side paved the way towards a 25-22 win for the hosts. The second set was just as close with Unet Yamamay this time having the upper hand at 25-22. Minchanka fought back in the third set (25-21) but ended up losing the fourth 24-26 and at this stage, Unet Yamamay had secured their spot in the quarterfinals. The visitors from Italy lost the tiebreak 15-10 but this had no real significance anymore.

In the next round, Unet Yamamay will play Linamar – BÉKÉSCSABAI RSE of Hungary for a spot in the semis.
