Pomì CASALMAGGIORE comfortably through to CEV Cup 8th Finals
2017 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women

Haifa, Israel, January 26, 2017. Pomì CASALMAGGIORE of Italy easily claimed also the re-match of their tie with Maccabi XT HAIFA 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-19) to make it through to the 8th Finals of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women.

The gold medal winners from the 2016 edition of the CEV Volleyball Champions League easily routed their Israeli opponents by showing the right blend of solid defence and effective attacks. The Italians recorded as many as eight blocks in the second set only –and in the end Samanta Fabris and Lauren Gibbemeyer top scored for CASALMAGGIORE with 18 and 15 points, respectively. The match with Maccabi XT HAIFA coincided also with the European debut of Colombian Lorena Zuleta and libero Giulia Gibertini. Setter Tamar Stein played a good match for HAIFA as the Israeli champions’ most prolific scorers in the end proved to be Hanna Kyrychenko and Marina Galperina with 14 and 12 points, respectively.  

Giovanni Caprara, head coach of Pomì CASALMAGGIORE: “I am proud and happy because we played a good match and we easily secured our progression to the next round, especially thanks to a wonderful performance by our spikers. We will be trying to achieve the same result when we play the Finnish team [HPK HÄMEENLINNA] in the next round of the competition.”
