Pomì CASALMAGGIORE rout Israeli champions in CEV Cup opener
2017 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women

Cremona, Italy, January 12, 2017. Pomì CASALMAGGIORE started their journey in the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women with a 3-0 home victory (25-20, 25-18, 25-13) over Israel’s Maccabi XT HAIFA.

The gold medal winners from the 2016 CEV Volleyball Champions League caught a flying start to the second European campaign in their history. The first set was quite close but after that CASALMAGGIORE were in full control and comfortably won the second and third ones. Samanta Fabris top scored in the match for Pomì with 20 points, as Lucia Bosetti added 14 to the Italians’ haul. CASALMAGGIORE stood out especially at blocking, recording as many as 11 points in this aspect of the game. Anna Dovgopoliuk scored eight times for Maccabi as Hanna Kyrychenko added seven.

Giovanni Caprara, head coach of Pomì CASALMAGGIORE said: “We were supposed to win and we did it. We must improve our game because we made many mistakes but for tonight that is still o.k.”

Immacolata Sirressi, libero of Pomì CASALMAGGIORE: “This was a good start! It was not easy considering that we were still a bit disappointed following our setback in the national cup but it feels good to win 3-0.”
