Khimik celebrate dramatic come-from-behind victory in Romania
2017 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women

Targoviste, Romania, January 11, 2017. Romania’s C.S.M. TARGOVISTE lost their home match on schedule for the 16th Finals of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women to Ukraine’s reigning national champs Khimik YUZHNY after five dramatic sets (2-3; 25-22, 25-11, 22-25, 24-26, 14-16).

The hosts swept the first and second sets and continued to set the pace of the game up until the score of 20-15 in set 3; however, from there onwards Khimik fought their way back and scored time and again. The Ukrainians could make up for their slow start to the match and eventually earned a hard-fought, come-from-behind victory.

Dragan Nesic, head coach of C.S.M. TARGOVISTE: “I congratulate Khimik on their victory but I am sure that we still stand a chance of winning the return match and move on to the next round.”

Diana-Ioana Calota, player of C.S.M. TARGOVISTE: “I am sorry that we left the fans disappointed. We had to win this match.”

Andriy Romanovych, head coach of Khimik: “This is a very important victory, but it is not over yet. We still have to play the re-match in Ukraine.”

Daria Stepanovska, player of Khimik: “We won today but we must remain focussed. We expect a tough re-match at home.”
