TRENTINO and TOURS VB to vie for men’s CEV Cup crown
2017 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men

Luxembourg, April 1, 2017. TOURS VB and TRENTINO Diatec will contest the ‘grand finale’ of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men after they emerged victorious from their respective semi-finals with Germany’s United Volleys RHEINMAIN and Fenerbahce SK ISTANBUL of Turkey. The first matchup will take place on April 11 in Trento, before the final act of the competition follows on April 15 in Tours. These teams will be trying to add further glory to their illustrious history – with TRENTINO being three-time winners of the CEV Volleyball Champions League (2009, 2010 and 2011) and TOURS VB having taken that same crown back in 2005.

United Volleys RHEINMAIN vs TOURS VB

The adventure has come to an end for the United Volleys RHEINMAIN in the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup after a thrilling 2-3 (25-17, 22-25, 25-27, 25-15, 12-15) home loss to TOURS VB. However, what a great finale it was for the rookies of the competition and almost 2,500 supporters in Fraport Arena! Once again, the German team proved that they were able to keep up with one of the big names on the European Volleyball stage.

“We really challenged a European top-level team today and should not be too sad,” United Volleys head coach Michael Warm stated. “This was some great advertisement for Volleyball, although I would have loved to end my career in the finals against TRENTINO,” said top scorer (29 points) Christian Dünnes. One thing is for sure: the United Volleys RHEINMAIN did definitely not make some April Fools of themselves and there is a lot more to expect from this team in the future.

Fenerbahce SK ISTANBUL vs TRENTINO Diatec

TRENTINO Diatec needed to take two sets from their rematch with Fenerbahce SK ISTANBUL to make it to the ‘grand finale’ of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men and the Italian standout team achieved this goal to get the right to play France’s TOURS VB for Europe’s second most coveted crown. TRENTINO Diatec will be making their sixth appearance in a European final – they previously won the CEV Volleyball Champions League in 2009, 2010 and 2011, lost the CEV Cup final to Dinamo MOSCOW in 2015 and the last act of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Champions League to Zenit KAZAN.

TRENTINO Diatec secured their spot in the final after taking the fourth set of their away matchup with Fenerbahce and even though the hosts eventually won the match 3-2 (25-20, 22-25, 29-27, 19-25, 15-6), the Turks still had to bid farewell to the competition as they had lost the previous game in straight sets.
