25/05/2016 20:02 Faroese Volleyball has found the bridge to Europe 2018 FIVB Women's World Championship / 2017 CEV Volleyball European Championship - Small Countries Division Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, May 25, 2016. The Faroese women’s Volleyball national team has been photographed on the brand new Sandá-bridge in Tórshavn. On that photo the players pose together with Mrs Helena Dam á Neystabø, chairwoman of the Cultural Affairs Committee in the Tórshavn City Council, Mr Heðin Mortensen, Mayor of Tórshavn and Mr Magnus Tausen, President of the Faroese Volleyball Association. On Wednesday night Cyprus and the Faroe Islands are set to fight for first place in the SCD tournament played in Tórshavn these days. Before the much anticipated game, the teams are on equal terms, but with the home team slightly ahead in the standing because of their match points ratio. It is already a fact, that both teams have qualified to the SCD Finals, and now it is time to decide, who will progress to the second stage of the 2018 World Championship qualification. In this case the winner takes it all, and both teams are prepared to go for gold in tonight’s group ‘final’ in Tórshavn. For the home team it looks like they now have found the bridge to Europe – or maybe to the rest of the world. For many years the team has done well in the Island Games, winning gold seven times out of 15 participations in the event, but now they are also doing well in Europe. Two years ago, in Iceland, the Faroese team qualified to the SCD Finals for the first time, now they have done it again. The reason is that all parties work in the same direction. The clubs, the players and the Federation work very hard to educate both players and coaches, so that Faroese Volleyball continues to progress. On Wednesday night we will find out, if the bridge only goes to Europe this time, or if it leads the Faroese team even further. Click here for further information
