Galatasaray Daikin heavy favourites in re-match with SCHWERINER SC
2016 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women
Istanbul, Turkey, March 11, 2016. On Saturday Galatasaray Daikin ISTANBUL are hosting Germany’s SCHWERINER SC at Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall for the second leg of the 2016 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women semi-finals. On Tuesday night Galatasaray Daikin cruised to a commanding 3-0 win over their German opponents to start the re-match at home as the red-hot favourites for a spot in the final of Europe’s second most prestigious club competition.
Some months ago the management and the coaching staff of Galatasaray Daikin had stated that the major goals set for this season were to make the Final Four of the Turkish national league as well as the last and deciding stage of the CEV Volleyball Cup. Three weeks prior to the end of the national championship, Galatasaray Daikin have secured their spot among the top four of their country’s highly competitive national league. The Turks now need to take two more sets from the re-match against the German Bundesliga’s second best team, SCHWERINER SC, in order to fulfil their seasonal goals and start from there to go for more.
Asked about what he would do to motivate his players for the matchup with SCHWERINER SC, the head coach of Galatasaray Daikin Ataman Güneyligil said: “The same as always: they have to put up a good fight. If you don’t give everything you have, it is not likely that you celebrate any achievements. We must remain disciplined, show respect towards our coat of arms, to our opponent and to the prestige of the competition we are a currently a part of. The success will come when you fight for it. Back in Germany we played a really good game. Our opponent is not a team that would let their European Cup journey end so easily. I am sure it will be a challenging match. We are waiting all Volleyball fans to Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall tomorrow.”
As for SCHWERINER SC, in order to stay alive in the competition and remain in contention for a spot in the finals, they first have to claim a 3-0 or 3-1 win in Istanbul before a golden set would then follow.
The second leg of this semi-final tie will be played on Saturday afternoon at Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall starting at 5pm local time.
