Dinamo MOSCOW reign supreme at home, qualify for CL Playoffs 6
2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women

Moscow, Russia, February 24, 2016. On Wednesday Dinamo MOSCOW cruised to their second consecutive victory over Germany’s champions DRESDNER SC in two weeks and with their commanding 3-0 home win (25-17, 25-13, 25-21) the heavyweight from Russia’s capital secured their progression to the Playoffs 6 of the 2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women.

DRESDNER SC displayed a very solid performance in defence and tried to stand the powerful spikes killed by Dinamo’s star trio including the likes of Nataliia Obmochaeva, Fernanda Garay and Yana Shcherban. However, the Muscovites did not seem to be bothered by this and spiked time and again to impose their supremacy. Though they put on a fight, DRESDNER SC seemed to surrender towards the end of the opening set which the Muscovites eventually claimed by 25-17.

The second set followed a similar plot with DRESDNER SC trying to step up their efforts at the net, but without being that successful at it. Dinamo finished it off at 25-13 and with this secured their qualification for the Playoffs 6.

As a result, Dinamo coach Yury Panchenko opted for a different starting six in the third set, using both of his libero players in this section of the game. DRESDNER SC seemed to be able to keep the pace of the hosts and edged ahead in the score. However, an ace by Anastasia Bavykina, and the attacks killed by that same player and by middle blocker Iuliia Morozova got Dinamo back on track at 19-18. Anna Lazareva recorded two more aces for the home side and cheered on by the local audience, Dinamo did not look back anymore closing the third set at 25-21 in their favour.

Setter Vera Vetrova commented: “We are in a great mood after this match! We played very well and we managed to cope with this rival. DRESDNER SC tried to defend a lot of balls but they ultimately could not find any weakness in our game. As a result, their tactic did not work and we won in three sets. We had prepared for a difficult match and actually we expected more resistance from them. I would like to congratulate all of my teammates on this great victory.”
