Verona, Italy, March 15, 2016. Calzedonia
VERONA will be hosting Portugal’s Benfica LISBOA on Wednesday night for the
first round of the semi-finals in the 2016 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Men.
The much anticipated match will be broadcast nationwide in Italy by Fox Sports
as well as in the local neighbourhood by TeleArena. Additionally, live
streaming of the actions from PalaOlimpia will be available on www.laola1.tv
“We
are going to play a very important match,” said the coach of Calzedonia VERONA,
Andrea Giani. “We want to win the upcoming matches with Benfica and progress to
the next stage of the competition because the Challenge Cup is one of the major
goals we have set for this season. We have to step up our efforts and perform
our best in order to put pressure on our opponent.”
Calzedonia
VERONA will somehow try to make amends for the loss suffered last year by their
compatriots of CMC RAVENNA to Benfica in the semis of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Challenge
Cup. The team from Lisbon eventually settled for the silver medal after losing
to Serbia’s Vojvodina NS Seme NOVI SAD in the finals.
“I
think this is going to be a difficult match,” said Benfica head coach José
Jardim. “Calzedonia VERONA have a strong team but obviously we have very good
players too and we will be trying to perform better and better from set to set.
We must remain focussed and concentrated on each and every rally,” said the
mentor of the team that last Sunday extended their home supremacy by claiming a
sixteenth title in Portugal’s national cup.
