Turkey stamp easy win over Georgia to further cement their leadership
2015 CEV Volleyball European League - Women

Izmir, Turkey, August 29, 2015. On Saturday Turkey women’s national team further cemented their leadership in the 2015 CEV Volleyball European League cruising to a comfortable 3:0 win (25-8, 25-14, 25-17) in their first matchup of the weekend with rookies Georgia. The remake will follow on Sunday at Atatürk Sports Hall in Izmir and it will bring to an end the pool phase of the competition before the top four continue their journey in the semis.

Turkey needed less than 70 minutes to complete their job as their rising star Ceren Kestirengöz top scored with 20 points well supported by Fatma Yildirim who recorded 12. Ann Kalandadze paced Georgia in their losing effort with 11 points.

The match was one-sided and after completion of set 1 and 2, Turkey held an advantage of 27 to 11 in winning spikes. The Georgians tried their best but could not compensate for their gap in experience and from a physical standpoint as well, losing the first and second sets by 8-25 and 14-25, respectively. The course of the match did not change in the third set with Turkey cruising to a comfortable 25-17 win to cash their first victory of the weekend.

Georgia’s coach Khatuna Giorgadze said: “There is no doubt that Turkey has a very strong team. We, on the other hand, played very bad, especially in the first set. We performed slightly better in the second and third sets but still Turkey quite comfortably cruised to their set wins. We are hoping for a better performance tomorrow.”

Georgia’s captain Ana Tvauri commented: “We struggled against a strong Turkish team, which consists of better and professional Volleyball players. We played quite well in the third and last set and will be trying to do our best tomorrow as well.”

Turkey’s mentor Ismail Yengil said: “It was an easy match for us and it went as we expected. We respected our opponent as we never underestimate any rival. We play to win every match we contest.”

Turkey’s team captain Ayse Melis Gürkaynak concluded: “We want to finish pool play in first place and tomorrow we will be trying to beat Georgia again. After that, our goal will be to seize the title.”
