Belarus and Turkey extend rivalry in last round of European League preliminary action
2015 CEV Volleyball European League - Men

Brest, Belarus, August 7, 2015. Belarus will be playing Turkey this coming weekend for the last round of preliminary action in Pool B of the 2015 CEV Volleyball European League – Men. These teams do not stand any chance to make the Final Four coming up next week in Walbrzych, Poland but they definitely want to deliver a solid performance as they bid farewell to the competition. Belarus and Turkey know each other very well since they have crossed their ways as many as 10 times over the last four years in a number of international competitions.

Though a spot in the Final Four is out of reach, Turkey’s and Belarus’s coaches expect their teams will perform their best in the last round of pool play in Brest.

Belarus has made some changes to their roster for the matches with Turkey as Pavel Audochanka and Stanislau Zabarouski have joined the group but coach Victor Sidelnikov is confident that this won’t affect the quality of their performance.  “We haven’t played Turkey for quite some time,” he joked on the eve of the double header coming up in Brest. “I am confident that we will get to see a couple of great matches. We have struggled with injuries and we made some more changes for this weekend but we will try to win both matches and to complete our journey in the European League on a high note. There are great fans here in Brest and we got a great atmosphere for our previous home matches with Slovenia two weeks ago. We will need their full support also this Saturday and Sunday when we play Turkey,” Sidelnikov concluded.

“All of our previous matches with Belarus were interesting and close,” stresses Turkey’s mentor Emanuele Zanini. “We were able to strengthen the roster of our team before playing our matches with Croatia and Romania and we have forgotten the bad start we caught in this campaign when we lost twice to Slovenia. We are building a new team in this competition and here in Brest I just want my players to perform their best,” he concludes.
