9 out of 9 for relentless Estonian men’s national team
2015 CEV Volleyball European League - Men

Tallinn, Estonia, August 7, 2015. On Friday night the Estonian men’s national team kept their perfect record in the 2015 edition of the CEV Volleyball European League edging Israel by 3:0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-21) and on Saturday will be chasing their tenth straight victory in the competition waiting for the Final Four to follow next week in Walbrzych, Poland.

“Absolutely, if we already have nine victories out of nine matches, then we want to end the European League with a perfect record,” said Estonian outside spiker Robert Täht looking forward to Saturday’s re-match with Israel.

On Friday he registered 15 points and was the best scorer for the hosts. He killed 13 attacks out of 24 attempts and added two service aces to his personal tally. “We didn’t start the game very well, but in the middle of the first set our game got better and after that I was sure that we would win the match,” Täht added.

Israel’s national team mentor Avital Selinger said that their game plan was to keep up with Estonia as far as possible. “I think we were partly able to do that but Estonia was a little bit better in all aspects. For sure they were better in serving,” he said. “We have a very young and inexperienced team and two of our main players couldn’t come to Estonia so it is a good experience for other guys. Tomorrow I would like to see that we can perform better in all fundamentals of the game,” he stressed.

Best scorer of the game was Israel’s outside spiker and superstar Alexander Shafranovich with 18 points.

The teams will end their group stage on Saturday night when they meet again in Tallinn.
