Greece hope to extend winning streak in upcoming home matches with Turkey
2015 CEV Volleyball European League - Men

Thessaloniki, Greece, July 16, 2015. After their excellent performances and two home victories in their clashes with Romania for the opening round of action in Pool B of the 2015 CEV Volleyball European League – Men, Greece is now looking forward to their home matches with neighbouring Turkey coming up on Friday and Saturday.

The clashes starring the two Balkan neighbours are another major challenge for the young Greek side and speaking about the upcoming matches the captain of the blue and white team, Menelaos Kokkinakis said: “We started our campaign in Pool B of the 2015 CEV Volleyball European League in a perfect way, but we all know that this week against Turkey it’s going to be a totally different story, if you compare the upcoming matches with the two games we played against Romania. The only common thing will be the sports hall and I hope that the Greek fans will come and support us until the very last point.”

Greece’s mentor Sotirios Drikos will have at least one change in his line-up as he decided to give some rest to his libero Konstantinos Tampouratzis and this means that the matches against Turkey will mark the European League debut for Dimitrios Garas.

“For sure we would like to extend our winning streak and with the help of our fans I think that we can do it, but personally as a coach I would like to see some other things from my team,” Drikos says. “For instance I want my players to control the rhythm of the match and to avoid the series of unforced errors they made with Romania and on the other hand I would like to force our opponents to make mistakes. I think we are at the same level as Turkey and as I said to my players we are just about to have two real ‘fights’ where I’m expecting my players to fight like men do.”
