Austria host Israel on Friday for European League season opener in Enns
2015 CEV Volleyball European League - Men

Vienna/Enns, Austria, July 1, 2015. The Austrian men’s national team will be starting this coming Friday and Saturday with two home matches versus Israel their campaign in the 2015 edition of the CEV Volleyball European League. After hosting Israel in Enns, Austria will then play Poland, Estonia, the F.Y.R. of Macedonia and Denmark.

The Austrian team’s build-up already started at the end of May in Innsbruck followed by intense weeks at the VIVA Landessportzentrum in Steinbrunn. Austria also had the opportunity to play two friendly matches with Switzerland during that same camp, recording two wins by 3:0 and 3:2, respectively. Austria are currently completing their preparations for the home debut with Israel at the Sporthalle in Tulln, where later this month – July 25 and 26 – they will be hosting the national team of Estonia.

Austria’s mentor Michael Warm says: “It is evident to me that through the challenging tasks in their clubs many players have definitely progressed. In general the impressions are much better than they were last year.”

The first opponent in this year’s European League is Israel on July 3 and 4. “The Israelis are the most unknown team in our pool since they did not play many international matches lately,” adds Warm.

Austria’s team captain Alexander Berger: “We always focus just on the next game. If we want to reach the Final Four or even the big final, we have to get some points right from the beginning of our campaign.”
