Slovenia start home qualifier with ‘mission impossible’ against Russia
2015 FIVB U21 Men Volleyball World Championship - European Qualification
Nova Gorica, Slovenia, May 15, 2015. One of two second-round qualification tournaments for this year’s FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship is just about to start in Nova Gorica where the hosts of Slovenia – who last year finished in fourth place at the CEV U20 Volleyball European Championship in Brno – are set to play the national teams of Belgium, Germany and Russia. The eventual winners of this tournament will book a ticket to Tijuana and Mexicali where the World Championship will be taking place from September 11 through 20.
The home heroes as well as the visitors had their last trainings and the competition will get underway on Friday afternoon with Belgium playing Germany before the hosts of Slovenia go immediately for a ‘big match’ against reigning European champions Russia. It’s a difficult task for the home team as with this group of players Russia has dominated all under-age competitions for the last couple of years. Slovenia, Germany and Belgium seem to stand at the same level whilst Russia enter the tournament as the clear-cut favourite of the competition. However, the hosts rely on the support of their fans to achieve good results and possibly have a shot at the top positions in the final standing of Pool H.
Nova Gorica is ready for three days of high-class Volleyball, fun and maybe for some surprises as well.
The tournament will be covered extensively on the CEV website as well as on the CEV’s
Facebook
page and
Twitter
account. Make sure you also use the official hashtag
