Lokomotiv BAKU edge Red Stars to move on to CEV Cup quarter-finals
2015 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women

Baku, Azerbaijan, December 18, 2014. Azerbaijan’s Lokomotiv BAKU qualified on Wednesday night for the quarter-finals of the 2015 CEV Volleyball Cup – Women scoring a second victory in their double match with Serbia’s Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD. The team from Azerbaijan’s capital city had already claimed the away match last week in Serbia bz 3:0 and did not miss the chance to repeat a similar performance at home to progress to the next round.

The home heroines lived up to the expectations and cruised to a 3:1 home victory thereby advancing to the quarter-finals of the competition. Lokomotiv BAKU started the match with the right pace and controlled the game from the start to the end bringing the opening set to a close at 25-22. The second set also went the way of the players mentored by Dutch head coach Teun Buijs. They played with self-confidence and comfortably claimed the second set by 25-20. However, things changed in the third set: Lokomotiv had already secured their ticket to the next round and Buijs decided to play with some of his second lines. Crvena Zvezda exploited this opportunity and won the set by 23-25. The starting players of Lokomotiv returned to the court in the fourth set and this time they kept their focus and determination through to the end (25-23).

In the next round Lokomotiv will most probably play Russia’s Dinamo KRASNODAR as the star-studded team around Lioubov Sokolova looks a way too strong – even more after the first round – for their Finnish opponents of HPK HÄMEENLINNA.
