Despite suffering yet another serious injury, Antonijevic extends contract with Volero for another four years
News from the clubs
Zurich, Switzerland, April 25, 2015. Shortly after her comeback in the Swiss national league, the 27-year old setter of Volero ZÜRICH, Ana Antonijevic, suffered yet another injury as the Swiss multiple champions are currently on a training camp in Belek, Turkey. In spite of this setback, Antonijevic signed for another four years and will stay with the winners of Switzerland’s national league and cup up to 2019.
Only three weeks ago Antonijevic had resumed training with Volero after a break of seven months. She eventually returned to action in the Playoff finals of the Swiss national league with Volley KÖNIZ and it looked like she was back on track, ready to help Volero in their home campaign as Zurich is about to host the 2015 edition of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship.
Unfortunately on Thursday she suffered yet another Achilles tendon injury and that same day she returned back to Switzerland to undergo medical treatment. The operation went well but her recovery will be taking again several months. “I am still shocked,” Antonijevic says. “After rehab, I was finally ready to take up the tasks ahead and help the club pursue the goals they have set.”
As far as the extension of her contract up to 2019 is concerned, Antonijevic explains: “Volero believes in me and they have showed this to me repeatedly for the past few months and over the last few days as well so that I can come back to the court. This is yet another reason to extend my contract and show my trust and loyalty to the club. I will again devote all of my energy to the rehab so that I can pay back Volero for their support hoping to return to the court as quickly as possible.”
