Zenit KAZAN extend contract with Matt Anderson, Marouf to leave the team at the end of Russian league
News from the clubs
Kazan, Russia, April 10, 2015. The gold medallists from the 2015 edition of the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Men, Russia’s Zenit KAZAN, announced on Friday via their website that American outside spiker Matthew Anderson will be playing for the team from Tatarstan also in the 2015-2016 season.
Anderson first moved to Kazan in 2012 and has played as many as 106 matches wearing the shirt of the Russian armada. Apart from being a gold medallist of this year’s CEV Volleyball Champions League, Anderson was also crowned a Russian national champion in 2014 as well as a winner of Russia’s Supercup in 2012. Anderson shocked the Volleyball community last October by announcing his intention to take a break from competitive sport citing depression and personal problems. He eventually returned to Kazan in January and was among the 14 players that helped the team from Tatarstan win their third title in Europe’s elite competition.
Zenit KAZAN have also announced that their Iranian setter, Mir Saeid Marouflakrani, will be leaving the team at the end of the current season. Zenit will try to defend their crown in the Russian Superleague later this month taking on arch-rivals Belogorie BELGOROD.
