More than 4,000 spectators are expected to attend as this coming Wednesday, at the new arena in Civitanova Marche, Italy’s Cucine Lube TREIA entertains Poland’s PGE Skra BELCHATOW in first-leg action of 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men’s Playoffs 12
This is the second time that Cucine Lube plays against PGE Skra in Europe’s most prestigious club competition, as they already met in the main phase of the 2007 edition. On that occasion, the two sides scored away victories against each other before finishing second and third, respectively, in a pool of six teams, with the Italian squad eventually making it all the way to the Final Four.
“We really want to make it to the Final Four again, a goal that our club has not achieved since 2009. PGE Skra BELCHATOW is certainly one of the strongest teams out there at the moment, but I feel confident as far as our chances to progress are concerned. Even more so after getting the qualification to the Playoffs 12 in the last second and with a little bit of luck,” said Dragan Stankovic, the Serbian middle blocker of Cucine Lube TREIA.
Cucine Lube is actually in very good shape, as the Italian champions are coming from 5 consecutive victories scored in the Champions League and the national league combined. In fact, last Sunday the team from Treia won in straight sets away at Piacenza against another Italian participant in the Champions League – Copra Volley, and is currently ranked third domestically.
The game between Cucine Lube TREIA and PGE Skra BELCHATOW is scheduled for 20:30 local time on February 11.
