Greece still motivated to fight back to make European League Finals
2014 CEV Volleyball European League - Men
Thessaloniki, Greece, July 15, 2014. On Wednesday Slovenia and Greece will be crossing their ways once again for the second round of the semis in the 2014 CEV Volleyball European League – Men. After losing at the tie-break the first match played last Saturday in Thessaloniki, Greece needs to score a 3:0 or 3:1 away victory in Maribor to call for the golden set and stand a chance to progress to the finals. Greece’s head coach Sotirios Drikos (pictured) will count on Wednesday also on the contribution of young rising star Georgios Tzioumakas, who last weekend played with the U20 national team at the third-round European qualifier in Ruma, Serbia.
“Every player is really looking forward to the second match,” Drikos says. “It is a great pleasure for everyone to be involved in matches of this calibre. We have a tough challenge ahead because we want to come back after Saturday’s defeat and it would be great if this finally happens. This kind of format with home and away matches is tough anyway. You can’t predict much and the result will depend on the level of concentration that my players will display throughout the game. The side with more endurance and resistance will win in the end.”
After both teams went through ups and downs on Saturday, Greece’s head coach expects that Slovenia will display a much better performance at home. “However, I believe it is going to be the same also for our team, at least as long as we make fewer mistakes than we made last Saturday in Thessaloniki,” he concludes.
