Prime Minister hosts Serbia’s Volleyball national team after bronze-medal performance at 2015 women’s EuroVolley

Belgrade, Serbia, October 7, 2015. Serbia’s Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic organised on Tuesday a special reception to honour the players and coaching staff of the country’s women’s national Volleyball team who just finished third at the 2015 EuroVolley in Rotterdam. The Volleyball players were joined by members of Serbia’s canoeing and rowing teams who have also been extremely successful at their respective World Championships held in Italy and France, respectively. The event was attended also by Serbia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, former water polo star Vanja Udovicic.

The delegation of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia included those players who have stayed in Serbia following their return from The Netherlands, and namely Maja Ognjenovic, Jelena Nikolic, Ana Bjelica, Tijana Boskovic, Bianka Busa and Mina Popovic, as well as members of the coaching staff - Zoran Terzic, Aleksandar Vladisavljev, Vladimir Bankovic, Bojan Perovic, Sinisa Mladenovic and Ivan Knezevic. Slobodan Milosevic, Secretary General, Nenad Golijanin, Senior Vice President, Zoran Avramovic, Marketing Director, and Dragutin Cuk, Technical Director, were also in attendance on behalf of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, with President Aleksandar Boricic being unable to attend due to his commitments at the upcoming men’s EuroVolley in Italy and Bulgaria.


 
“We are very proud of you, as I speak on behalf of our State,” Prime Minister Vucic said. “You represented our country in the best possible way and I am convinced that you will continue to do so. 2016 will be the year of the Olympic Games in Brazil and we do not hide that our expectations are high with all the skills that our athletes have shown. What we can do is to fulfil our obligations towards them. We thank you for your endless sacrifice and hard work, showcasing a new generation of young, motivated people. We also hope that you will be satisfied with what the State can do for you for your endeavours and we welcome you with the greatest happiness. We sincerely appreciate what you are doing and thank you from the deepest of our hearts,” he added.
 
The team’s leader and setter Maja Ognenovic said: “On behalf of all members of our team I would like to thank the Government of Serbia and all of you for your warm welcome and for the time you shared with us today. We also thank you for your support and assistance and for always believing in us. That is all we need for our great effort and infinite hours of training and competitions and hope to make you even happier with another medal in the future, but this time with an Olympic one from next year’s Games in Rio de Janeiro.”
