Much to the joy of the 7,000 fans congregated in the sports hall in Rotterdam, The Netherlands clinched their coveted ticket for the EuroVolley final. The Oranjes made their dreams come true qualifying for the gold medal match in front of their home crowd and aim now to achieve their second continental title. It is history repeating itself for the Dutch side, as the co-host hope to replicate the momentous success accomplished in the 1995 CEV European Championship, when the Oranjes claimed their first and only European crown in a tournament also celebrated on home soil. The stakes are high for the local players, who will receive the support of a completely full sports hall in Rotterdam.

Trying to overcome the support of the local fans and the inspiration of the Dutch side, Russia will try to sign their second continental title in a row. The current title holders closed the 2013 European Championship with the top honours, after defeating hosts Germany 3:1 in the final, so the main goal in Yuriy Marichev’s camp will be to repeat the success from two years ago, thus achieving their whooping 19th European title (including also those claimed by the former Soviet Union).

The intention of the teams clashing in the bronze medal match will be to go past the disappointment of failing in the semi-finals contested on Saturday. Turkey and Serbia embark on a quest for the third position in the final podium and so as to leave the tournament on a high note.

After the compelling defeat suffered against the home heroines in the first semi-final, Turkey will try to regain the remarkable presentation of efficiency demonstrated during the preliminary pool round and the quarterfinals. The Turkish squad hopes to add the bronzed award in the EuroVolley to the gold medal achieved in the Baku 2015 European Games, thus capping a noteworthy campaign this year. The two-time European Championship medallists aim at their second bronze medal after they settled for third place already in 2011.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the net, Serbia will try to close their sensational year on a happy note by stepping on the third position of the final podium. Zoran Terzic’s ladies registered a historic silver medal in the 2015 FIVB World Cup and earned the much-coveted qualification for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. After finishing in fourth position in the 2013 edition of the tournament, the three-time European Championship medallists have set their sight on what would be their second bronze medal in history (the former Yugoslavia settled for third place back in 1951).
