Serbia v the Netherlands 3:0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-19)

Opposite Tijana Boskovic led Serbia to an undisputed straight-set victory over the Netherlands, scoring 20 points for her squad. Bojana Milenkovic added 14 kills for the Serbian side. Juliet Lohuis contributed six winners for the “Oranjes”.
2012 runner-up Serbia jumped out to an unquestionable 8-2 lead at the first technical timeout in set No. 1. The young Serbian talents put a lot of pressure on the Dutch passers who never gave their captain Britt Bongaerts the chance to set up a fast offensive game. On the other hand, the Serbians showed, once more, their powerful offense with an outstanding 60% quota in the first set.
Boskovic still felt no pity for her opponents in the beginning of the second period, sending series of missiles to the Dutch side. The young “Oranjes” did their best to stop Boskovic’ power but could not prevent her from booking nine (!) points in the second set. Even though the Netherlands came closer at 12-14, they had not the ghost of a chance to beat the outstanding Serbians in Wednesday’s first Pool I match. Serbia easily cruised to a 25-17 set win.
The story of the match remained the same in the third and last set. Maja Aleksic brought up match point at 24-16 with a quick combination in the middle before, three rallies later, Bongaerts served short to offer Serbia a well-deserved undeniable straight-set win.
Serbia head coach Marijana Boricic: "I'm happy that we have qualified for the medal matches but we are aiming for another victory tomorrow. We want to finish the group on the first place. Furthermore it is important to start the semifinals with a good feeling after another success."
Serbia captain Tijana Boskovic: "We played as planned today. It was maybe our best match in this tournament. Our next opponents from the Czech Republic show good volleyball. However, I believe in my team to book another victory tomorrow."
The Netherlands captain Britt Bongaerts: "The Serbians passed very well today and we couldn’t stop their leader Tijana Boskovic as we had planned."
The Netherlands head coach Matt Van Wezel: "We are still in the race for the best eight round. That was our goal in the beginning of tournament. I know what we have to do to win the last pool match against Greece. We'll see tomorrow if it works."

Greece v Bulgaria 3:0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-15)

Greece scored a huge 3:0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-15) win over Bulgaria on the fourth day of the 2014 CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship – Women at A. Le Coq Sports Hall in Tartu. With today’s win, the young Greeks improve their records to 3-1, giving the team of head coach Konstantinos Papadopoulos promising chances for a semifinal ticket. On the other hand, Bulgaria drop to 1-3.
Anthi Vasilantonaki topped the scorers' chart with brilliant 27 points, including six service winners and three block kills. Best scorer for the unlucky Bulgarians was captain Gergana Dimitrova with 14 points.
Greece opened their capital match versus Bulgaria with excellent team spirit and a strong offense. Led by 1.96m tall opposite Anthi Vasilantonaki (9 points in the first set), the Greeks quickly gained momentum until the first technical timeout (8-3). The Greek servers put a lot of pressure on the Bulgarian passers in the early phase of the match (eight service winners) while on the Bulgarian side captain Gergana Dimitrova did her best to resist (six points). However, it was not good enough as the Greek talents cruised to an unquestionable 25-18 set win.
Bulgaria improved their level of play in the second set. Nevertheless, like many times before in this tournament, the Bulgarian coaches and players had weak nerves in the decisive moments of the match. Alexandra Psoma served three missiles to turn around the score from 19-20 to 23-20 for Greece. Vasilantonaki added a hammer to make it 24-21 for her side. Dimitrova responded with a winner from the right side but could not stop the outstanding Greeks (25-22).
Even though Bulgaria fought back courageously in the beginning of the third set (4-0 and 7-3), the team of head coach Petar Dochev could not cope with the exceptional team spirit the young Greeks displayed. Vasilantonaki served eight times in a row to make it 12-7 for Greece. It was the turning point of the set as Greece never looked back and easily sailed to a well-deserved 25-15 set and 3:0 match win.
Greece head coach Konstantinos Papadopoulos: "I'm satisfied with our results so far. We came here to advance as far as possible. The qualification for the classification matches is already a success for us. We try to continue our winning streak and show that Greece can compete with Europe’s top teams."
Greece captain Anthi Vasilantonaki: "I showed my best game today. However, it is more important to play with an excellent team spirit. I hope that we'll finish second in our pool, thus advancing to the semifinals."
Bulgaria head coach Petar Dochev: "My team played a very bad game today. This is not the level we usually play. The decisive moment of the tournament happened on Sunday when we lost against the Czech Republic.”
Bulgaria captain Gergana Dimitrova: "Maybe our team was psychologically affected as we had lost our two previous matches. If I am looking back, then I'm sure that our team could have played much better.”

Estonia v the Czech Republic 1:3 (15-25, 14-25, 25-20, 14-25)

In Wednesday’s last Pool I duel, the Czech Republic beat host Estonia in four sets (25-15, 25-14, 20-25, 25-14). The young Czech talents keep their hopes for the semifinals alive while Estonia celebrated their first set win at the 2014 CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship – Women.
Michaela Mlejnkova was the top scorer of the match with 28 points in total. Anna Sucha added 16 kills to the Czech triumph. Estonian Kristiine Miilen contributed 11 points for the hosts.
Estonia started confidently, putting steadily pressure on the Czech passers. The Czechs quickly answered with some own service winners to enlarge the gap from 9-7 to 16-8 at the second technical timeout. Michaela Mlejnkova and Anna Sucha were the leading forces for the young Czech talents who eventually ended the first set 25-15 in their favor.
The Czech Republic retained control of the match in the second set with an excellent offense and four block winners. The Estonians displayed a solid passing game but could not overcome the strong Czech defense (14-25).
However, the hosts bounced back heroically in the third set. The team of head coach Peeter Vahtra, supported by 250 thrilled fans, led 16-10 at the second technical timeout and never looked back until 25-20. The hosts had improved their offensive game and were more effective in blocking (4 kills) in the third period.
Nevertheless, the Czechs kept calm in set No. 4, not willing to give away their good position in the race for the semifinals. The team of head coach Ondrej Marek quickly returned on duty with strong will and much more power. Estonia, on the other side, had no answers to the commanding Czech game. Mlejnkova closed it out for the Czech Republic at 25-14.
Czech head coach Ondrej Marek: “We had lost our focus in the third set but showed a good reaction in the fourth set. The Estonian played well. They enjoyed it to play in front of their home crowd. Greece has the better cards in their hands in the race for the semifinals. However, the last step is always the most difficult. We’ll do our best against Serbia tomorrow.”
Czech captain Marie Kurkova: “We got a little bit nervous after the loss of the third set. However, we managed to play better in the fourth period. Against Serbia we’ll need a strong defense. We have nothing to lose.”
Estonia head coach Peeter Vahtra: “In the third set we made some good tactical changes what helped us to win our first set in this tournament. I am really happy about that. As the Bulgarians might have lost their confidence after another defeat, we will try to finish the competition with strong team spirit and hopefully also a good result.”
Estonia middle blocker Laura Parts: "To win the first set in this tournament is a great achievement for us. I'm also satisfied with my own game as today the liaison between setter and middle blockers started to work well."

Two weeks before the men’s U20 national teams will battle for medals in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Estonia and Finland are in the spot light for the prominent CEV event at Tartu’s A. Le Coq Sports Hall that hosts Pool I and Tampere’s Exhibition and Sports Centre featuring Pool II. A total of 38 matches are played during the tournament, running from August 16-24, 2014.
