Omichka best serving team at the end of 2014 CL season

Omsk, Russia, March 17, 2014. The 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women drew to a close on Sunday in Baku with Russia’s Dinamo KAZAN winning the title, but another Russian team – the rookies of Omichka OMSK REGION – has got something to celebrate. The Siberian “Cats” top the final charts when it comes to the number of aces registered throughout the season (85), followed by Turkey’s Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL (72) that had to be content with fourth place in Baku.

Omichka had debuted this season in Europe’s elite club competition turning into the “Rookie of the Year” after making the Playoffs 6 where they eventually lost to Eczacibasi VitrA.
Apart from topping the charts with their 85 aces, Omichka finished the season in fourth place among the most prolific teams scoring a total of 670 points.

The players of Omichka stand out also individually; their Cuban-born spiker Nancy Carrillo is the second best server of the season with 21 aces and the fifth best spiker with 185 points. Omichka team captain Elena Yureva (pictured) is the third best blocker with 100 stuffs to be added to 19 aces, enough to settle for fourth place in the standings of the best servers. Natalya Mammadova and Iuliia Kutiukova also made the top ten in the end for the best wing-spikers and receivers respectively.

Since their debut in the European Cups back in the ‘90s, Omichka has played a total of 40 international matches against teams from 14 different countries, registering a total of 27 victories and 13 defeats.
