Eczacibasi makes it five in a row without dropping any set
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women

Istanbul, Turkey, December 11, 2013. Turkey’s Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL routed once more Germany’s champions SCHWERINER SC as they had already done some weeks ago to claim on Wednesday their fifth straight victory in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women. Actually Eczacibasi is also the only team that still did not drop a set in the competition and they could keep that amazing record also after the fifth round of the prelims where they downed their German opponents in straight sets (25-15, 25-17, and 25-15).
SCHWERINER SC claimed the first two points of the game but Eczacibasi promptly drew level at 2 all. The score stayed very close up to 7:7 before a mistake by the home heroines powered the guests from Germany to the front at the first technical time-out (7:8). Eczacibasi then flipped the charts around once more (10:9) before SCHWERINER SC leveled at 10. A good serving turn by Büsra Cansu and some problems in reception for the German champions widened the lead for the home side (13:10) and with Neslihan Demir (Darnel) gradually finding her best form, Eczacibasi comfortably set the pace of the game at the second technical time-out (16:11). As the hosts were breaking away (18:11) the young mentor of SCHWERINER SC Felix Koslowski decided to go for a double substitution with Lene Scheuschner and Tanja Joachim replacing Denise Imoudu and Carina Aulenbrock. It did not help much as Eczacibasi moved the score up to 22:13 and did not look back to wrap it up at 25-15.

Koslowski was forced into an early time-out as the home side opened the second set with a 4:2 run. The Germans tried to respond with good actions by Laetitia Bossoko but Eczacibasi was in full control of the game (9:6). The spikes killed by Senna Usic Jogunica (pictured) and good serving by Maja Poljak propelled Eczacibasi to a 16:10 lead at the second technical time-out; Koslowski replaced Pauliina Vilponen with Lisa Stein and even though Eczacibasi mentor changed Usic and Buse Kayacan with Yimei Wang and Esra Gümüs Kirici, that did not affect the quality of their game (19:12). A good serving turn by Lene Scheuschner brought back some hope to the visiting team but in the end Eczacibasi claimed also the second set with ease (25-17).   

Poljak and Demir paved the way for a 7:2 lead in the third set as they were helped by some silly errors made by their opponents. Koslowski asked for his second technical time-out as his side was trailing 4:13 but he could not change the course of the game with Eczacibasi calling for the second mandatory stop by the terrific score of 16:4. The home heroines did not slow their pace down and they finished it off at 25-15 for their fifth straight victory in the competition.  
Maja Poljak top scored in the end with 14 points while Laetitia Moma Bassoko paced SCHWERINER SC with eight.

“We knew that our opponents were missing some of their best players due to injury” Eczacibasi mentor Lorenzo Micelli commented after the game. “However, every match is very important for us and we want to play it fully focused and determined. We have another important game against Fenerbahce in the national league before we travel to the Czech Republic to play there Agel PROSTEJOV for the last round of the prelims. We need to prepare as good as possible for these fixtures” he concluded.
