Galatasaray Daikin wins dramatic game with Azeryol to book Playoffs spot
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women

Baku, Azerbaijan, December 10, 2013. On Tuesday Turkey’s Galatasaray Daikin ISTANBUL claimed a very dramatic game with Azeryol BAKU (3:2; 21-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-15, and 16-14) to cement their leadership in Pool E with 12 points and book their spot for the Playoffs 12 of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. Waiting for the result of the derby starring Prosecco Doc-Imoco CONEGLIANO and Unendo Yamamay BUSTO ARSIZIO that is coming up on Wednesday, Azeryol BAKU is ranked second with seven points and so still in contention for a spot in the next stage of the competition.
Azeryol caught a good start forcing Galatasaray mentor Massimo Barbolini into an early time-out (4:1). Azeryol still set the pace with a comfortable margin (8:3) at the first technical stop as the hosts showed a good performance in reception combined with solid attacks. Barbolini asked for his second time-out as Galatasaray Daikin trailed 5:10 but Azeryol continued to control the operations (16:7) and even though the guests from Turkey attempted a late comeback (22:19), Azeryol could claim the first set with the score of 25-21.
With their Colombian superstar Madelaynne Montano on fire, Galatasaray was off the blocks very strong in the second set (3:8, 4:11) and even though Azeryol minimized their deficit (11:12), the guests this time controlled the game up to the end of the set (22-25).
Things changed once more in the opening of the third set where Azeryol stormed out to an 8:5 lead and the home heroines imposed their pace also later on to move the score up to 16:9. Azeryol was once more very solid in reception while their German spiker Margareta Anna Kozuch helped widen the lead up to 21:15. Even though Galatasaray fought their way back, the hosts could restore their leadership in the game (25-21).
The guests from Turkey found back their best play in the fourth set (4:8) and Azeryol was unable to respond to that storm (8:16), so that the outcome of the game was to be decided at the tie-break (15-25).
Azeryol caught a good start there with an early lead (4:1) but Galatasaray drew level at 5 all. The guests moved to the front for the first time at 10:11 and after a time-out asked by their Italian mentor Barbolini, they could seal the final 14-16 for their fourth victory in the competition.
