Rabita emulates VakifBank by claiming fourth straight victory
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women

Baku, Azerbaijan, December 5, 2013. Last year’s silver medallists Rabita BAKU emulated Turkey’s VakifBank ISTANBUL by scoring a fourth consecutive victory in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women. They did so by routing once more – as they had done a week ago – Germany’s DRESDNER SC in straight sets (25-14, 25-15, and 25-19) to confirm their leadership in Pool A.
Rabita started out strong and shook the defence line of DRESDNER SC with their powerful serves. US American middle blocker Cursty Jackson was the most outstanding player for the home side as she killed a series of great spikes and terrific blocks. Rabita easily won the first set 25-14 and the story almost repeated itself in the second where the hosts cruised to a speedy 25-15. Aurea Cruz also did a great job for Rabita in all fundamentals and was one of those who set the pace for BAKU. The third set was also easily controlled by Rabita that celebrated their third consecutive victory under the leadership of their mentor Eldar Yusubov who had replaced in November Italian-born Angiolino Frigoni at the helm of the team.
“It was a very important game to keep our leadership in the Pool” Yusubov commented. “The opponent we got to play is a very good team. My players did a great job tonight but we still need to work hard because we have set very high and ambitious goals for this season.”
“I am proud of my team and hope we continue to improve and we play better and better” said Rabita team captain Sanja Starovic.
“Congratulations to our opponent, they really have got a strong team” commented DRESDNER SC mentor Alexander Waibl.
