Dinamo Romprest once more too strong for young Belgian rookies
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League- Women

Gent, Belgium, December 4, 2013. GENT Dames suffered on Wednesday their fourth straight setback in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women as they lost their home match with Romania’s Dinamo Romprest BUCURESTI in straight sets (17-25, 12-25, and 20-25). Dinamo was once more too strong for the Belgian rookies around head coach Stijn Morand and could claim an early lead in each set to cash their second victory in the competition.
Dinamo started the game with their best starting six – including Diana Nenova, Alida Marcovici, Tsvetelina Zarkova, Ioana Baciu, Mirela Corjeutanu, Maria Karakasheva, and libero Nicole Davis – while GENT Dames made some substitutions along the way but could not change the course of the game. Corjeutanu top scored in the end for Dinamo with 14 points while Lise De Valkeneer paced GENT Dames in their losing effort with 12.

GENT opened the game with a 3:1 run but they already trailed by the first technical time-out (4:8). A good serving turn by Karolina Goliat almost closed the gap for the home side (9:10) but a very inspired Zarkova brought to an end the hopes of the local heroines to stand a chance to win the opening set (17-25). In the second set Dinamo claimed an early lead (0:4) and GENT trailed 3:12 later on; Corjeutanu scored a couple of points to make it 10:21 and the set ended with the clear score of 12-25 for the visiting team. Things did not change in the third set where GENT went down 1:6 right from the go but still the Belgians could fight their way back to almost draw level after the second technical time-out (17:18). That was all for the home side for Dinamo got back control of the game and finished it with another three points by Corjeutanu.

“We played a good game tonight; GENT Dames have a young team and they trust their coach, so this is a good starting point in order to develop and improve” said Dinamo mentor Marian Constantin after the game. “I was a little worried at the start of the game but we showed good blocks and served well to win the match” added US American libero Nicole Davis.
