Rookie CONEGLIANO makes it three in a row
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women

Treviso, Italy, November 28, 2013. Italy’s rookie Prosecco Doc-Imoco CONEGLIANO does not stop to surprise the Volleyball community and on Thursday night scored their third consecutive victory in preliminary Pool E of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women by edging Azeryol BAKU 3:2 (23-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-15, and 15-10). This way Prosecco Doc-Imoco could claim the top spot in the standing of the group though sharing the same points – seven – as Galatasaray Daikin ISTANBUL.
3,000 fans had found their way to the Palaverde in Treviso to cheer on the “Panthers” who fought their way back from 16:21 to 21 all in the first set before Margareta Anna Kozuch and the blocks killed by Azeryol sealed that section of the game for the team from Azerbaijan (23-25). In the second set CONEGLIANO opened with a 8-3 run powered by Valentina Fiorin and Emiliya Nikolova; the home side slowly but surely widened their lead (14:9) and even though BAKU fought back to 21:19, the hosts finished the set at 25-19 with a good performance by their setter Carli Lloyd and good points contributed by Valentina Tirozzi and Berit Kauffeldt.
Azeryol rapidly imposed their rule in the third set (2:5, 7:14) and even though CONEGLIANO did try a late comeback, still that set went to the team from Azerbaijan’s capital city (22-25). The Italians responded with a strong performance in the fourth set (13:8) where they were paced by a superb Nikolova to cruise to a terrific 25-15 and call for the tie-break. CONEGLIANO imposed their pace right from the start (3:0) and eventually pocketed their third victory in the Pool (15-10).
“I have a great team and once more my players have showed their character and pride” said home mentor Marco Gaspari. “We have won a tough game against a very strong opponent. We played without our captain who got injured last weekend but nevertheless we could show a great performance tonight especially thanks to Berit Kauffeldt who excellently replaced Raffaella Calloni.”
“My congratulations to CONEGLIANO; they played a great game and were evidently boosted by their many fans tonight” commented Azeryol mentor Angelo Vercesi. “Even though they were missing their captain, they played their best. We also played well but it was not enough to win this match. We hope to get our revenge next week in Baku.”
