Dinamo Romprest BUCURESTI down Belgian rookies in straight sets
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women

Bucuresti, Romania, November 27, 2013. In a very important game as they fight for third place in their Pool, Dinamo Romprest BUCURESTI edged GENT Dames of Belgium in three sets (25-20, 25-17, and 25-15) to claim their first victory in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – Women. Though the Belgian rookies displayed some good actions, it was the hosts who in the end deservedly had the upper hand.
Dinamo Romprest started their game in a very good way showing good blocks and attacks to make it 8:6 at the first technical time-out. GENT spikers were able to put some more pressure on the hosts and the score stayed pretty close until Belgian coach Stijn Morand stopped the game for a time-out as his side was trailing 11:14. With good spiking by Mariya Karakasheva and blocks by their captain Alida Marcovici, Dinamo Romprest moved the score up to 18:13 and even though their opponents attempted a late comeback, the home side finished it at 25-20.
The same story followed in the second set where Dinamo Romprest started off very strong with good serving by Marcovici (8:5); the set was easily controlled by the home side with Karakasheva and Ioana Baciu scoring with good consistency to make it 19:11; another time-out asked by Stijn Morand could not help GENT change the course of the game and Dinamo cruised rapidly to the final 25-17.
GENT Dames finally managed to make it to the front in the early phases of the third set (8:6) where they were powered by some great defense action as well as by the good attacks killed by Karolien Verstrepen. Dinamo, however, did not relax and fought their way back to level the score at 12 and cruised past their opponents with another four consecutive points as Baciu and Karakasheva were on fire. With their solid block Dinamo moved the score to 19:13 and easily finished their job at 25-15 for a 3:0 home victory.
Mariya Karakasheva top scored for the home side with 15 points while Alida Marcovici added another 12; Lise De Valkeneer paced GENT Dames with 16.
“I am really satisfied with my team’s performance tonight. We did a good job but this is not the end yet” said Dinamo Romprest General Manager Marian Stefan after the game. “We have to play better next week and win in Belgium as well.”
Dinamo Romprest team captain Diana Nenova added: “We played really good today; our block and serve were strong and we deserved to win. Now we need to prepare well also for the remake that is coming up next week in Belgium.”
