PROSTEJOV goes for close match with RC CANNES
2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Women

Prostejov, Czech Republic, October 28, 2013. Agel PROSTEJOV did not win a single set in the away match against the extremely strong Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL but they hope to deliver a much better performance in the home match against their next opponent in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League, France’s RC CANNES. The Czechs will play France’s multiple champions this coming Wednesday at 6.00 p.m. at the DDM Sports Centre in Prostejov. And they believe that if they get enough support from their fans, they can make it difficult for the French side or even beat them in the second round of action in Pool D.
“I want to invite and ask all the fans to come and see the match to form a really big audience and cheer on our ladies as much as possible from the very beginning of this clash. I think that a great atmosphere like in football or hockey is not very common in women's Volleyball, and, by doing this, our fans could derail even such a strong opponent like RC CANNES and, on the other hand, motivate our ladies to push harder and show a fabulous performance. Everyone remembers how we managed to down Italy’s VILLA CORTESE in Prostejov or how we edged Rabita BAKU in another memorable home match. We want to stay modest but we want to try to make a similar sensation” says Petr Chytil, the Chairman of the Management Board of Agel PROSTEJOV.

However, it is going to be a really difficult mission because RC CANNES has made some changes in the roster to be even stronger than it was last year. Now they are expected to make it easily out of the Pool play and also advance to the Playoffs 6 or eventually to the Final Four. "RC CANNES definitely belongs to the strongest Champions League teams and their star-studded roster can be also compared to that of Eczacibasi. The leading players of these multi-champions of France are Eva Yaneva, the best Bulgarian-born player, Nadia Centoni, an Italian-born world-class player, as well as Ana Antonijevic and Milena Rasic, two excellent players from Serbia. And when Victoria Ravva, their most important middle-blocker, got injured, they immediately took on Corina Ssuschke-Voigt that we know very well. That means they have very good financial conditions and the club is in a good state in general,” says Agel PROSTEJOV head coach Miroslav Cada commenting on their next opponent.

The team from the city of the famous film festival confirmed his words by outclassing SCHWERINER SC from Germany in their opening match of this year’s Champions League. This match ended in a very clear result: 25-17, 25-15 and 25-16, which means that the current champions of the German Bundesliga took even two points less than PROSTEJOV did in Istanbul. “Of course we want to achieve a much better score on our home ground despite the high quality of RC CANNES. We would not like to repeat our weak performance from last year's Champions League but we need to do our very best to achieve this goal. We came close to our best performance in set 3 in the match against Eczacibasi – this set was very tight for a very long time. And I think that if we play such good Volleyball now, we can do very well with RC CANNES” adds Cada.

The Czech team caused a sensation in the 2011 edition of the CEV Volleyball Champions League in the match held on the French Riviera where they claimed a 3:2 win. Will they be able to do the same as they play on their home ground? To be continued…
