Romanian champions Tomis CONSTANTA vie for first European final
2014 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men
Constanta, Romania, February 27, 2014. Romania’s champions Tomis CONSTANTA are about to achieve a historic feat as on Sunday they play the re-match of the CEV Cup semis with PARIS Volley vying there for a spot in the last and final act of the competition. Tomis got the right edge with their 3:2 away victory from last Tuesday in France and if they seize the night also on Sunday, they will make a European final for the first time in their history. Tomis already played twice in the semis of the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup but always failed to progress to the final.
A couple of days before the re-match with PARIS Volley, Tomis organized a press conference to share with the local media the latest news on their preparations. The players mentored by Bulgarian head coach Martin Stoev sounded quite confident especially since the return game is taking place on the shores of the Black Sea. All pre-conditions are hence there for a night to remember also for the many supporters of the team.
“The public will be playing a very important role. We guarantee that we will be playing to put on a great show” says the Executive Director of Tomis, Serhan Cadar.
If Tomis makes the final of the CEV Volleyball Cup, this would be the first time a Romanian team will be fighting for a European trophy since Deltacons TULCEA lost 1:3 to Ukraine’s Lokomotiv KHARKIV in the final match of the 2004 Austrian Airlines Top Teams Cup.
“Even though they lost the first game at home, I am sure that PARIS Volley will travel to Constanta with the intention to fight and make the final” adds Sergiu Stancu. “We are preparing very well for this return match and we want to progress to the final and celebrate this achievement with our supporters. After the results we claimed this year in the European Cups, including our performances in the prelims of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League, Tomis is no longer an unknown name in Europe” adds the Romanian middle-blocker.
“Every game is equally important. Everyone is benefiting from the performances we have showed this season. Our only goal is to qualify for the final” says Andrei Spinu.
