Ukraine joins third-round qualifiers after third consecutive win in Lutsk
2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championship - Women
Lutsk, Ukraine, May 26, 2013. Ukraine joined the winners of the other first-round qualifiers to advance to the third stage of the 2014 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship after completing its home campaign in Lutsk by edging Hungary 3:1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-21, and 25-16). With this result Ukraine could finish the tournament with an immaculate record of three wins in as many matches while Hungary settled for second and will continue their World Championship adventure this coming October via a single round-robin second-round qualifier.
Hungary’s superstar Dora Horvath – who spent the past couple of seasons in Italy – top scored in the game with 24 points while the home side was paced by Nataliia Zakharchuk and Tetyana Kozlova with 16 apiece. Renata Sandor of Hungary and Nadiia Kodola of Ukraine also finished the game in double digits, with 14 and 13 points respectively. In the other match of the day Albania edged Moldova in three straight sets (25-22, 26-24, and 25-20) to settle for third place. Both teams were already out of contention for a ticket to the next round of the competition.
