Vladimir Grbic shares impressions after World Champs DOL
2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championship - Men

Beograd, Serbia, January 30, 2014. Vladimir Grbic, a 2000 Olympic champion and the current Vice President of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia, was among the three stars who helped draw the teams participating in the Final Round of the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship Poland 2014. Last Monday Grbic – together with Volleyball Player of the XX Century Lorenzo Bernardi and 1976 Olympic champion Tomasz Wojtowicz – attended the DOL ceremony held at the Congress Hall of the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw.
Grbic – who is also a member of the FIVB Development Commission – is a silver medallist from the 1998 World Championship in Japan, a member of the Volleyball Hall of Fame in Holyoke and in the Polish city of Milich. His resume also includes four medals from the European Championship (one gold, one silver and another two bronze medals), which contribute to a total of 13 international medals he claimed throughout his career with the national teams of Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro.

“Everybody keeps on asking me about the composition of the Pool that Serbia was assigned to,” Grbic says. “I can only say that in Volleyball there are no easy opponents. After all, all teams will be very motivated and travel to Poland to win. However, I am happy that Serbia was not drawn in the same Pool as France because they are a very strong side whose performances are difficult to predict. Anyway, in the end it does not change much. Sometimes it is better to get difficult matches right from the beginning so that you immediately get into the rhythm. Via the Pool matches you normally get ready to take on the challenges that will follow. Our main goal is to reach the semis as we have done in the past four editions. We are going to play the opening match of the tournament at the National Stadium in Warsaw. I can only say that this has been my dream for many years and I always wished I could end my career this way. In the end, I just want Volleyball to become more popular and I am sure that via the World Championship in Poland, Volleyball’s popularity will reach its peak.”
